From start to finish, this was the perfect holiday. Meals, served at the table, were delicious. Cleanliness and comfort were the order of the day, and the grounds were immaculate. Finally, staff were so fr.iendly and helpful

Just back from second occasion visiting here (having forgotten the bad experience of some years ago). Booked one of the more expensive, bigger rooms in main house with meal+b&b offering (a several hundred euro package). It got off to a bad start when we arrived at reception (attend by 4 people, 2 receptionists and two porter-type guys). All four left us standing at the counter (no other customers present) for several minutes, without a word...after some minutes one receptionist looked up, said "hi" and then went back to examining her terminal (she glanced sideways at the other one, who was busy looking at a CC machine, who never acknowledged us at all). After another extended period of wishing us gone, she said "oh, do you want to check-in?". Amazing substantial rudeness...which seemed in retrospect to be the house style. Accordingly, we were assigned the smallest of the high-end suites, by the elevator, presumably because we should not have really darkened their door. This was a starter for astoundingly bad service over the next 24 hours. The dinner alone contained repeated fails: (i) after ordering and waiting a long time, we were brought our main courses, which were taken back and, after another break, given our starters, (ii) 30-40 mins later we got the same mains back (one the tempura veg was fetid, soggy and greasily re-heated and turned out to be unsafe healthwise), (iii) the floor boards by our table were springy and noisy and as staff trundled by, you had to avoid spilling your drinks, (iv) there were people flying everywhere chaotically, (v) after our starter we were asked did we want the dessert menu, (vi) then (and this was the best) when we had eaten our main, and were leaving (not taking up the paid for dessert, with the bill actually on the table between us) a waiter tried to deliver two further mains (two steaks) to our table (one to the vegetarian). After all of this, they appeared not to know we were on a package and tried to bill us for the delivered slop. When the failure to resolve this confusion went on for 15+ mins, we told them to fix it themselves and went to bed (where the wifi and netflix did not work properly in our room). All of this was capped by a sit-down breakfast of dickensian proportions the next day...we had to book our time for breakfast (and could not be faciliated, we said 9am, no they said it had to be 8.45am (really! 15 mins makes such a difference?) When we arrived a woman carrying many dirty plates, shouted across the room to us to sit by the entrance while she unloaded these in the kitchen? Six other servers were standing beside us doing nothing, ignored us, as none could show us to our table ! Greasy-spoon service would be more considered...You get the picture ! Wow! Really never again...

Comfort, elegance and relaxation ...such an enjoyable stay. We dined in style, soaked up the treats of the spa and relaxed In the bar. Our room was large with two sash windows looking out onto the magnificent views of the golf course.
